What can go right when three Bombay dudes come together to plan a wedding in Delhi– that’s the basic premise of Voot’s new comedy web series, Shaadi Boys, which premiered this morning on the digital platform.
Here’s how Voot describes its latest online series: “Narcissistic Nitin (Abhinav Verma) and motor-mouth Mukesh (Rishabh Chaddha) chance upon an opportunity to make big bucks when Army man Khullar (Pawan Chopra) hires them for his niece Riah’s (Parul Joshi) wedding.
The only condition? The cinematographer-choreographer duo need to bring in a writer to script the gala affair. And that’s where Neil, our quintessential nice guy, comes in, who’d rather die than pimp his writing skills for the sake of a few lakhs!”
During a recent interview, the show’s writers – Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal – best known for their work on Ram-Leela and Brothers, said that the series “takes a pot-shot at the Indian wedding industry, which is immune to recession,” adding that the show “also gets into the age-old debate of which city is better: Mumbai or Delhi?”
Well, that pretty much gets established in the first episode which features instances like Khullar finding Mukesh’s Mumbaiya tapori language quite amusing, and the boys wondering how they came from Mumbai to Delhi to get work when usually it works the other way round! Also, the Delhi girls…!
