Is ‘virginity’ even an issue in today’s day and age? Especially in the case of an arranged marriage? Well, that’s what this new short film titled, The Virgins, tries to address through a light-hearted and humorous storyline.

Starring Akshay Oberoi, Divyendu Sharma and Pia Bajpai, The Virgins is a rather amusing take on certain expectations that a young couple, on the cusp of an arranged marriage, may have from each other – in this case, specifically pertaining to virginity.

The film, directed by Sandeep A. Varma (Manjunath), was released on YouTube on Thursday, June 30. A special screening of the short film was held in Mumbai that same evening which was attended by some prominent Bollywood personalities including Imran Khan and Kalki Koechlin. While talking to the press, the young stars praised the short film and the relevance of the idea behind it.

“The film was very enjoyable. It is actually on a very interesting subject. it is on a very relevant and a topical thing. The ones who have got married and the ones who have thought of getting married, I think that they will relate a lot to this film,” said Imran Khan. (via India Today)

Kalki Koechlin, said, “I think it is a very interesting concept, the idea of ‘The Virgins’, people who are concerned about being a virgin or not being a virgin before marriage, we don’t see that often explored in cinemas, so it’s nice.”

“It just talks about a subject that we don’t really address, I think in today’s day and age we should address the subject of sex and it shouldn’t be taboo and the film really breaks all the taboos,” she added.
