Is Richa Chadha’s role in the upcoming web series ‘Powerplay’ really based on Preity Zinta? The show, which also stars Vivek Oberoi and Angad Bedi in key roles, revolves around all the behind-the-scenes drama that unfolds during IPL. Richa, reportedly, plays a Bollywood actress who also owns an IPL franchise.
Earlier rumours suggested that her character is loosely based on Preity, but there has been no confirmation on that front. However, this recently leaked on-set image of Richa definitely adds some credence to those rumours.

Times of India carried out an (unconfirmed) report a couple of weeks back stating that Richa’s character in the series “is based on Preity Zinta.”
“[She] owns a team in a professional league with her boyfriend (played by Angad Bedi). However, according to sources, Ness and Preity’s domestic woes have been kept out of the plot.” The report added that, prior to filming, Richa watched several old videos of Preity from IPL games to prepare for her role.
Preity Zinta’s IPL stint embroiled her in several controversies – with her alleged link-up to cricketer Yuvraj Singh and then a very public legal spat with her former boyfriend Ness Wadia. Since Powerplay revolves around the scandals and rackets associated with the IPL, it remains to be seen whether the show portrays that aspect of Zinta’s career.
The 12-episode series, produced by Farhan Akhtar and directed by Karan Anshuman (Bangistan), will premiere on Amazon Prime. Shooting is currently underway in Mumbai.
