Even the B-town actors are now fast realizing that it is the content that makes a show go a long way. Actor Vivek Oberoi, who is starring in an upcoming web series, recently spoke to the media about how people love to ‘binge-watch’ shows and hence the biggest challenge the makers face is to keep the audience engaged till the very last minute of the series.
Which is why it is imperative to pick the right medium to show the right kind of content, said Vivek, who will soon be seen in Amazon Prime Video’s first original Indian web series – Inside Edge.
“I think the challenge in a web series is to keep your audience engaged. All that matters is how interesting the content is… Can it hold an audience for many hours?”
Vivek plays the role of a businessman named Vikram Dhawan in the series and he sounds pretty kicked about it.
“This is an interesting character. He is the master of the game. He controls everything… Power is his drug and if he wants something, he will go to any extent to get that.”
Vivek has been part of Bollywood for several years now having kicked off his career with movies like Company and Saathiya (his best work till date). When asked how shooting a web series was different than working on a film, he replied:
“Many a times in films, you change your thoughts at the drawing board of the story, thinking we can’t do this because of censorship. That doesn’t happen in a web series.”
Inside Edge will set a benchmark of sorts as it is the first Indian web series to be made on a massive budget and Vivek is super thrilled about that.
“I found it really cool that Amazon and Excel Entertainment (Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar) invested so much money in creating a high quality product that will reach out to more than 200 countries across the globe.”
“Somebody sitting in a far off country who has no idea about me or cricket will watch the show and get to know about it… Like the way I had no idea about the cocaine business, nor do I know Spanish… but I still watch Narcos.”
India’s first Amazon Original, Inside Edge is the story of the Mumbai Mavericks, a T20 cricket franchise playing in the Powerplay League. Set in a landscape of conflicting interests, where selfishness is almost a virtue, where sex, money, and power are mere means to an end, Inside Edge is a story that pulls no punches, minces no words, and takes no prisoners.
The series will release and stream on Amazon Prime Video, on July 10.
