“Coming soon” – That has been Amazon’s standard response to the question: When is their Prime Video service launching in India? Well, here’s an update that offers a little more clarity on that front.

In a recently posted video by ‘The Grand Tour’ team, the hosts of the popular British motoring show announced that the series will be available in more than 200 countries by December this year. The video was shared by the verified Amazon Prime Video India Twitter account as well. This clearly indicates that Amazon is set to launch its eagerly-awaited Prime Video service in India, by next month.

That’ll give the company a chance to take on Netflix, which was already available in 60 countries before it expanded to 130 more in January 2016. Like its rival, Amazon invests in producing exclusive original content and also licenses shows and movies from global studios and distributors.

In India, Amazon has partnered with major Bollywood studios and distributors like Dharma Productions and T-Series; it’s also set to stream popular regional franchises and is reportedly working to secure rights to stream IPL matches, reports The Next Web.

As part of the licensing deal, Dharma Productions will provide Amazon with select blockbuster titles including their latest hit, ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.’ Amazon has reportedly also bagged exclusive online rights to offer other upcoming movies from the production house such as ‘Ok Jaanu,’ which stars Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, and ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania,’ featuring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt.

As per reports, the company has also tied up with major production houses like Yash Raj Films and Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment among others, to develop exclusive web series that will release and stream on Amazon Video.
