The first half of 2016 saw some really great new Indian web series blowing up the digital entertainment content space in India. Shows Like Ladies Room (Y-Films), Better Life Foundation (Them Boxer Shorts), Chinese Bhasad (Viacom 18) and more, managed to make quite an impression on young India.
And it doesn’t look like this trend is slowing down. Some pretty exciting new web series are lined up for release in the coming months and judging by the promos, teasers and other details, it sure looks like fans and viewers are in for a big treat.
Here’s our roundup of the top 5 web series to look forward to this year:
Produced by Y-Films (Ladies Room, Bang Baaja Baaraat) this comedy web series is slated to release in July.
One of the most eagerly-awaited and talked-about web series of the year, Tanhaiyan – starring Barun Sobti, Karan Wahi and Surbhi jyoti – is produced by 4 Lions Productions (Qubool Hai, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, Humse Hai Life) and is expected to release around the end of this year.
The first trailer of this upcoming web series released to an encouraging response and managed to create quite a buzz. Starring Hitesh Malukani and Monica Sehgal, this drama series is about a young urban couple dealing with the challenges that come post an arranged marriage. No release date has been announced as yet.
Permanent Roommates Season 2 might be over, but fans of Sumeet Vyas (who plays Mikesh on the popular show) need not wait till next year to see him back in action. The actor is working on a new drama web series by TVF which is expected to release later this year. Watch this space for more details.

A web series based on the popular Indian sitcom, that aired in 2005, was recently announced by the makers. Producer JD Majethia stated that he intends to finalise the script soon and start rolling thereafter.
Even though no tentative timeline regarding the production for the series has been shared, fans of the original show are hoping that the web series will release online this year. We’ll just have to wait and watch about that.
